Our Story
To capture the gracefulness of an image utilizing the wonderful palette that glass provides is the goal in creating.
Each image is rendered using hand cut fusing glass. I choose class colors and piece them together using glass variations, assemble it, and fire it in a kiln numerous times for dozens of hours. The entire process can be up to 80 hours, depending on the scale/scope. Most images are derived from photographs, and others are found images that communicate a quiet relational beauty. Much of the wildlife images are from personal experiences – like the time I came face to face with a herd of bighorn sheep on a mountain hike or witnessed the magic that happens when disabled children “come alive” on the back of a therapy horse.
The unspoken beauty of life offers much inspiration. My special needs daughter does not speak, yet her life “speaks” volumes to me about what matters most: the simple truth that she is created in the image of God and therefore, her value is immeasurable. There is no performance to scale her worth, equally so, all created life exists in the simplicity of its intended design. And so, reflects a beauty that is pure and genuine.
Inspiration seems to arrive daily. So much so that I wake up considering my next art adventure. It may be an event, a relationship or a memory that evokes new energy. Each piece develops organically as I begin cutting glass, and I keep cutting and layering until it finds its voice. Kiln formed glass is a relatively recent art form that has expanded into a variety of presentations. I fabricate wall art, lighting, and dimensional pieces to satisfy the imagery I am working to represent. Over time I have gained confidence as I have played with a stronger color palette and a greater degree of abstraction.
